1. Project Overview

During the production process of Zhejiang Qili Co., Ltd., a large amount of dust is generated in the processes such as metal cutting in stamping workshop, injection molding parts polishing in synthetic resin workshop, engine mechanical processing and pretreatment in coating workshop. Such dust has complex components and scattered emission points. It not only affects production accuracy and product quality, but also endangers employees' occupational health, which is inconsistent with the enterprise's green development goals. To consolidate the leading environmental protection status, ensure production safety and employee health, Zhejiang Qili Co., Ltd. entrusts Zhonghuan Lvzhou (Shandong) Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to customize a special dust treatment scheme with cartridge dust collector as the core equipment.

2. Pollutant Analysis and Hazards

2.1 Main Pollutants

The core pollutant of this project is multi-component industrial dust, which can be divided into three categories according to different production processes: first, metal dust (mainly steel and aluminum particles) generated by stamping and mechanical processing; second, plastic dust (such as PP and ABS resin particles) in synthetic resin workshop; third, paint-containing dust and mixed dust generated from coating pretreatment and polishing processes, mainly composed of metal oxides, resin residues and coating additives.

2.2 Formation and Hazards of Pollutants

Such dust is mainly produced by high-speed interaction between tools and workpieces or material friction and crushing in the processes of metal cutting, parts polishing and resin processing. Its hazards are reflected in three dimensions: human health, production safety and environmental quality.

2.2.1 Hazards to Human Health

Particles with particle size ≤5μm in metal dust can penetrate deep into human lungs. Long-term inhalation is easy to cause occupational diseases such as pneumoconiosis and metal poisoning. Organic components in plastic dust and paint-containing dust will irritate respiratory mucosa and skin, leading to allergic diseases. Some components may also affect nervous system function through metabolism, posing continuous threats to the health of front-line employees.

2.2.2 Production Safety and Quality Risks

Both metal dust and plastic dust are combustible dust. When accumulating to the explosion limit in the closed workshop space, explosion accidents are easily triggered by electric sparks or high temperature of equipment. At the same time, floating dust is easy to adhere to the surface of auto parts, especially precision engine components and coating surfaces, resulting in reduced assembly accuracy and paint surface defects. It increases rework costs and weakens the market competitiveness of products.

2.2.3 Ecological Environmental Impacts

Uncollected dust drifts to the factory area and surrounding areas, polluting the atmospheric environment and surface vegetation. The infiltration of paint-containing dust with rainwater may pollute soil and water body. 3.2 Design Principles

4. Design Objectives

Through the systematic treatment of the cartridge dust removal system, the following core objectives are achieved to consolidate Qili's leading environmental protection position:
  1. The dust emission concentration strictly complies with GB 16297-1996 and local relevant standards. The external discharge concentration is ≤5mg/m³, which is better than the conventional standard to reflect the enterprise's environmental responsibility.

  2. The exhaust funnel of each factory shall be set in accordance with specifications. The height of the main exhaust funnel of a single factory shall not be less than 25 meters to ensure sufficient high-altitude diffusion of purified waste gas and avoid impact on the surrounding environment.

  3. The dust concentration at each operating point in the workshop is controlled below 4mg/m³ (in line with GBZ 2.1-2019 standard), which completely improves the operating environment, eliminates hidden dangers of dust explosion and ensures employees' occupational health.

  4. The dust removal efficiency of the whole system is ≥99.5% with high automation. It can realize remote monitoring and intelligent operation and maintenance, meeting the enterprise's three-shift continuous production requirements and adapting to the intelligent manufacturing system.

5. Dust Treatment Process Design and Description

5.1 Process Selection Basis

The workshop production dust has prominent characteristics including complex components, fine particles, scattered dust generation points and slightly sticky partial dust. The enterprise has extremely high requirements for the efficiency, stability and intelligence of the dust removal system. Therefore, the pulse jet cartridge dust removal process is selected for this scheme. This process is maturely applied in the automobile manufacturing industry with the following core advantages:
  1. Excellent filtration precision: PTFE membrane-coated filter cartridge is adopted. The collection efficiency for metal dust and plastic dust above 0.3μm can reach 99.9%, which can effectively control fine dust emission and ensure the external discharge concentration is far below the standard limit.
